When I think of Tony Benn, I have my own memories of him and he was a strong leader of our generation against imperialism and war and a defender of welfare, but he was also a loved leader of his own generation, working class people like my grandparents. My grandfather lit up with the mention of Tony Benns name because in his eyes he stood for everything my grandfather wanted for his children, and to not have to leave school at 15, work on the milk carts to support his family like he did and then later when he had his own family he got arrested for stealing coal off the side of the hills in the Rhondda to keep his family warm. This is what the Tories are taking us back to, we are seeing more people not having enough to get by and this is the experience of my grandparents. People are relying on handouts while the Tories dismantle what this generation fought for, for us. We must not allow the Tories and the ruling class to lie to our generation about ww1, or brainwash us about benefits.
