"When I used to think of racism, I thought in terms of how it was - TopicsExpress

"When I used to think of racism, I thought in terms of how it was taught to me in school, in history class. Slavery. Jim Crow. The Ku Klux Klan. The N-Word. I was never taught about racism in terms of income inequality. Massive discrepancies in unemployment rates. Retirement inequality. Bullshit drug laws. The fact that millions of black men are in jail. That they die younger than white people.I certainly didn’t think about racism in terms of micro-aggressions, of making guesses about someone because of skin color. (Assuming my Asian friends are better at math, for example.) My point is that racism, like anything complicated, isn’t just one easy-to-pinpoint thing. If it were, it would be gone by now, like phone booths.
