When I was 13 I won a local modeling contest and was in the JC - TopicsExpress

When I was 13 I won a local modeling contest and was in the JC Penney catalog. My Mama decided to enroll me into the John Casablanca modeling school in Jacksonville, Fla. He is the founder of Elite modeling. While there one of the instructors told my mother that I could probably model anywhere in the US or Europe. But that we needed to hire a speech therapist and really try to change my accent....that no matter how successful I became I would always be viewed as being dumb because of how I talked. Debra Sally White Mizell chose not to do this after all my accent is what makes up who I am. I did a few modeling gigs after that but it fizzled out for years I wondered if I had changed my voice ..would I even be here, would I be more successful?. In the last couple years when I go somewhere of course my accent is noticed. But at this training in a room full of other Respiratory Therapists/Sales Reps guess who the Big Bosses from corporate want to hear talk the most...me. Im happy my Mama chose to let me be myself and stay myself its really working out;) Happy Thursday!
