When I was in Germany (Munich) for 1955 (Army) I had no idea this was the case with school children there. Germany regained it sovereignty on 05/05/1955 and the country immediately began a huge reconstruction program and clearing of the debris left from bombings during WWII. It was a marvelous change by the time I was rotated home in December 1955. A short time later Germany allowed many Turks to migrate to Germany because they badly needed workers to replace the many Germans killed during the war. Subsequently, as the Turks bore children and the children grew up in German schools and copied the German kids attitudes and habits, the parents generation tried to compel their kids to follow the Turks habits, etc. there was considerable trouble between the 2 generations. Sounds similar to todays American parents and their childrens views!
