When Jesus spoke things that would raise a few eyebrows, he began - TopicsExpress

When Jesus spoke things that would raise a few eyebrows, he began by saying, “verily” or “Truly.” In the Gospel of John, which is the Gospel that is especially interested in truth, witnesses, and accurate testimony, John records Jesus’ words as “verily, verily.” Jesus emphasizes his truthfulness and faithfulness by saying it twice! In other words, Jesus is saying, “In contrast to the false promises, inaccurate prophecies, and empty words you have heard so often from your leaders, what I am about to say is true. I can be trusted. Yes, believe me, because I am the Truth.” Welch, Edward T. (2007-10-31). Running Scared: Fear, Worry, and the God of Rest (p. 256). New Growth Press. Kindle Edition.
