When Nepal struggles to divert less than 4 cumecs of water for 27 km from Melamchi to Kathmandu, China has been implementing the worlds largest MEGA project: SOUTH TO NORTH WATER TRANSFER PROJECT, which will divert about 400 cumecs of water along each of three routes of length more than 1000 km. Mao Zedong had discussed an idea for mass engineering project as an answer to Chinas water problems in the arid north as early as 1952. He reportedly said, theres plenty of water in the south, not much water in the north. If at all possible; borrowing some water would be good.
