When Stanton Haugen was young, he learned how to fire a pistol and how to respect guns in general. I think he remembers mostly how I missed while trying to shoot a rattlesnake that was slithering across the road and disappeared, unscathed, in the ditch. I was a deputy in the Sheriffs Posse (a police reserve unit) and authorized to carry a concealed weapon (that permit allowed me to carry a pistol in the glove compartment (locked, of course) of our car. He wasnt big enough yet to safely handle any of my rifles or shotguns.
