When a 71 yr old homeless person who has ZERO family is admitted - TopicsExpress

When a 71 yr old homeless person who has ZERO family is admitted to the hospital after stroke #13 and is now in a state of sleep but not on life support, who can make decisions on his behalf? My brother in law who was his only close friend and the only person who has visited him every other day since the incident a month ago? or the dug addict hooker he (patient) was seeing, not dating, who told the hospital she is his stepdaughter?(which is not true, she thinks he has assets, he lived in a van) The hospital has chosen to believe the hooker although she has presented zero proof that she is his step daughter and has not been seen or heard from since he was admitted a month ago, and now the hospital refuses to give my brother in law any information on his condition. Last week, doctors removed his feeding tube so he can be more comfortable during his final days and yesterday they removed his IV. When my brother in law asked who gave anyone permission to do this, he was told the doctors were allowed to make the decision on his behalf. He is no longer hooked up to food and or liquids, he is at Bradwell in Redlands, any advice is appreciated, thank you.
