When cabinet minister Michelle Rempel came to Victoria Monday to announce $9.1 million in federal money for ocean-monitoring equipment, the idea was in part to “contribute to the Harper Government’s commitment to responsible resource development.” Nothing wrong with that — if you’re going to have more oil tankers, you had better have more monitoring — but it would be nice to see the feds develop policy based on science, not simply shape science to serve an economic agenda.
