When determining water quality, do you measure dissolved oxygen - TopicsExpress

When determining water quality, do you measure dissolved oxygen levels? If you are using a polarographic or galvanic dissolved oxygen sensor, remember that it is flow dependent. That means that if the water that youre sampling isnt moving, the probe should be. Both polarographic and galvanic DO sensors use consumptive technology - they consume oxygen at the sensor tip. If they are not stirred, or if the water is not flowing, they will provide an artificially low DO reading. Optical dissolved oxygen sensors, on the other hand, are not flow dependent. But if you stir them, they will provide a faster reading (they usually take about 40 seconds without stirring).
