When famed Supreme Court Justice, Oliver Wendell Holmes retired from the Court, he went on a speaking tour and it was called The Profession of the Law. His first speech opened, beware the half truth, you dont know which half youre getting. When ever a position(in government, politics, or the courts) is being pushed so hard that the flip side is hidden, seek to reveal that flip side. Were getting so much HOORAH for this mayors new budget, but nobodys talking about the downside to some(if not all) of his proposals. NOBODY! It was my understanding that the budget committe of the City Council was to take up the concerns of the residents(since the Aldermen are to represent the residents) and the administration has the best interest of the corporation called City of Chicago. But Ms Austin, as always, is in lock step, AGAIN, with everything this Mayor is proposing in his budget! by the way, what qualifies her to oversee the budget process for the council? Does she have a background in municpal finance? Public Administration? Our is her background in Thats how we always do it? How can new and fresh ideas come from someone whose only experience is how someone else did it in the past? In times of shortfall new ideas are needed to ensure the delivery of vital services and consideration HAS to be given to eliminating services that the residents dont really need! Has to make you wonder, How did she get that position? and what did she have to trade away(her words, thats what we do, horse trade) to get it? Municipal elections arent till 2015, but Im beginning to share some of my thoughts now. The more you hear them, the more youll consider CHANGE!
