When is a piece of cake worth more than a million dollars? Last - TopicsExpress

When is a piece of cake worth more than a million dollars? Last week Bob and I took a call for a 7 m/o boy in respiratory distress. We had company over but when we saw the age we flew out of the house and our guests understood and took over the house for us while we were gone. Upon arrival we had a very sick child who was trying so hard to be happy but needless to say was getting upset; my glasses, my stethoscope, the cannula and whatever he could reach went flying... perfectly understandable. We got an ALS intercept from Brockport and went on our way to Strong. Upon arrival the little one was still mad but calmed down a bit and his vitals were stable and improved! Upon entering the ped unit there was a "green socked" unstable person who decided to cause a ruckus and jump off the gurney and run around the ER; Bob and I each took a side of the gurney with our patient and covered him so no harm would come to him. We eventually got him in a room with Dad and bid our farewell and good luck to them all. Last night on our way home from Unity with a different call we went down the street where this family lived and Dad came running out of the house and flagged us down; my adrenalin spiked thinking that something else had happened to the baby. Dad yelled wait right there I have something for you. While dad was in the house mom came out with the baby; bright blue eyes and looking so much better than the last time we saw him. Baby was a little leary but he looked at me kind of grunted then broke out into a huge smile and put his arms out. Other than my family that was the best hug I ever got! Dad came out with a huge piece of cake and said this is for you guys, enjoy and thank you. That is when a piece of cake is worth more than a million dollars!
