When is euthanasia the only option? We, as dog trainers, are - TopicsExpress

When is euthanasia the only option? We, as dog trainers, are in the rescue business whether or not we actually pull dogs from shelters or place them in homes ourselves. Sometimes our appointments will be the deciding factor in whether or not a dog is sent to the shelter or whether or not the owner will decide that the dog will be put to sleep. We have our own grey area, where the criteria and limit of what issues we will and will not work with sit, but what do others in our tight knit community think? What should constitute euthanasia in an over populated, discriminate, yet still blindingly and incredibly passionate rescue community like we have here in Baltimore? Whether your opinion is nothing, or anything, without talking about it, nothing will change. How much time, money, space, energy and training should be spent with a dog who is not adoptable? Biased as my opinion might be, Im interested in hearing others. We try to be level headed but are human, too. Sometimes the heart wins, rather than the head. Share your personal story if you think it will help create a dialogue. When is euthanasia the only option? When is it not?
