When it comes to tattoos, the U.S. Army can still abide recruits right to bare arms. But ink on faces, fingers and other less conspicuous parts? Not so much. Nearly 30 prospective enlistees on average are being turned away each week from Army recruiting stations in Phoenix because of new prohibitions in the Armys Uniform and Insignia regulations. In a manual released March 31, the Army forbids tattoos on a soldiers head, face, neck, wrists, hands and fingers. The manual states that such tattoos are prejudicial to good order and discipline. No more than four small tattoos are allowed below the elbows and knees under the new rules. ALLHANDS: YOLO aside, whats the Army got against tattoos? About 300 prospective recruits in Phoenix have been denied enlistment, Army spokesman Michael Scheck said.
