When my dad was a boy, as his job, he rang the bells at church 3 - TopicsExpress

When my dad was a boy, as his job, he rang the bells at church 3 times a day. Its called The Angelus...ringing the bells at 6am, noon and 6 pm. A Hail Mary prayer is said. He used to love running by the school windows waving to the kids in class as he was excused every day at noon to ring the bell. When my dad passed away, we told the priest this story and the priest, Father Arbel, mentioned how he would love the church bells to ring again at our church. But the rope was in the loft and the stairs were too steep and dangerous for altar servers to get up and down quickly to ring the bells while wearing cassocks. So we decided to have a hole drilled in the floor from the loft to the vestibule to run the bell rope to the ground floor. My oldest brother and a contractor spent three days making this happen...nothings as easy as it looks. But they did it in time for the funeral. And now, at every Mass, we all think of our dad when the bells ring. Here is a clip of my nephew practicing the ring before the rosary. Thanks to Father Arbel for letting our bell now ring for every Mass. Hail Mary...
