When no sacrifice is required, we diminish our own sacredness... - TopicsExpress

When no sacrifice is required, we diminish our own sacredness... What we lose is our capacity to exchange what is dear to us and thereby receive the grace that comes from offering a gift; freely given yet dear to us nevertheless and that is the exchange whereby reality presents itself. So any discussion in representational art or otherwise must allow for this exchange and that is why we must - amongst other things - paint from life, because we have to exchange our time and discomfort in order to confront the thing that we are painting.
