When people tell writers that their books suck, I just facepalm - TopicsExpress

When people tell writers that their books suck, I just facepalm and feel bad for the writer. I dont care if the writer is Stephenie Meyer or E. L. James (Is that her name?). Theyve written a bloody book, and whether you think thats easy or not, I dont care. Because it is NOT easy, and all authors should get respected for writing a novel for that long and really committing fully to it. At the end of the day, theyre writing that novel for YOU. Sure, for themselves, too. But authors can make up the story in their head and leave it there since they know what happens, or write it down for themselves, but when they publish the book, they just want to make other people happy or make sure they learn something from reading a book. I love Rowling. Despite being married to her, I respect that shes written novels, and if people think her writing sucks and they put her down for it, then I feel sorry for her. Because what human likes to hear theyre bad at something (Even though Jo obviously isnt bad at writing)? Earlier today, my teacher said we stop getting nervous the more we speak in front of an audience, and I told him that was a lie. Barack Obama is scared of talking to an audience because hes scared of messing up. Rowling hates giving speeches etc. because its a scary feeling. Everyones staring at you, and everyones judging you, and when people tell you that something you did was BAD, you feel crushed inside and it sucks. And I wish people realised that authors, and all people are writers too. What point is there to make a joke out of calling E. L. James the most terrible writer on the planet? Yes, I agree shes not very good, but those kind of jokes SPREAD all over the internet, and believe it or not, but authors use the internet and they probably know how much people loathe their writing if its out on the internet. And its really disrespectful. Put yourself in that position. Youve done something youre extremely proud of, and people are giving you CRAP for it. Are they supposed to apologise for publishing a book for YOU readers? Really? Despite the book perhaps being shitty, it shouldnt matter as long as some people really enjoyed it. So, think about it. Next time people make jokes about writers they think are bad, dont join in, even if you know the writer wont hear it at your school etc. Jokes spread, and hearts can get broken. Maisie Williams is one example. She received hate half a month ago, and I remember her being a bit ... meh about it because it just sucks to hear that youre not grateful and stuff from people who dont really know you. Anyway, I need to stop rambling now. Thanks. By the way, give constructive criticism. Theres a difference between THAT and HATE. - Amicus
