When running off chemical confidence, approaching a women was the easiest thing to do (in a mega dysfunctional sketchy kind of way). The anxiety, the zero self-esteem, the fear, the social awkwardness, the negative voices - all of it - disappeared / none of it mattered. Being clean, sober and f*ucked up makes things a lot more difficult. All those facets that were suppressed are front and center. Negative self perceptions are like constantly getting buffeted by enormous waves that churn out of an ocean of baggage that seems to be rising.
