When someone says a person is not an author because they self-publish it makes me wonder what they think author means. Royalties are better, there are no obligations to do anything and I dont have to spend my 30s trying to convince some pompous ass that there is culturally meaningful subtext to my short story about someone cutting her own face off. Where would I find the time to send queries? I have done freelance everything in my career. I probably wont stop when it comes to books, even if I were offered. Moreover, people like me are not exactly what you would call good publicity. Its 2014. Books are judged by their merit, just like assholes. ETA: I dont let kids on this page, so dont stress about my potty mouth.
