When the sheep said: “I will choose a king over me, like all - TopicsExpress

When the sheep said: “I will choose a king over me, like all the nations around me;” their troubles worsened. For many years, they had been constantly harassed and oppressed by their adversaries. The problem was not that they lacked a king to lead them into battle…but that they pulled away from their King, and he withdrew from their midst, due to their rebellion. Long before they asked for a king, the chosen people of God began worshipping idols and engaging in immorality. God punishes sin, whether he dwells with you or not. As punishment for their sins, God never left the Israelites, but he pulled back and allowed other kingdoms and nations to capture and dominate his sheep. So, when the people asked for a king to be appointed over them, they were looking for a magical cure. Little did they know, they would pay a tremendous price for sure. That price was slavery; and no one to deliver them.
