When the state Attorney General, who should be working for the citizens of the state is assigned the task of defending the industry, citizens have zero protection. Follow the money, ask the question, “Who would benefit from promoting this issue?” especially when a law or bill takes away real democratic rights. Again, Pifer notes; “This legislative proposal had opposition arising from concerns that would limit the ability of municipalities to regulate matters of local concern such as concentrated animal feeding operations and the land application of biosolids.” The fact that ACRE specifically names CAFO’s and sewage sludge land application as something that will be defended is striking. Pifer goes on to say that a local ordinance may not, “…. attempt to impose a setback or other requirements ….. or restrict or limit the ownership structure of a normal agriculture operation.” In his page turner of an article, he goes on to state that, “ this protection of corporate agricultural activities …. is an INTERESTING component of ACRE as it runs counter to laws in some states that specifically restrict corporate involvement in agricultural operations.” The abuse of community rights and democratic values is not often referred to as an ‘interesting’ component of a law – except in Pennsylvania and ACREmonsense2/2013/11/state/acre-exposed/
