When was young, my dad stopped me from worshiping Superman. He pointed out the absence of black superheroes to me. I didnt understand. I do now. He was woefully optimistic if he thought he could crush the imagination of a six year old. I still fantasized about being Superman. I wanted to leap tall buildings in a single bound and outrun locomotives. I still do. Maybe Superman is the reason I was always obsessed with flying. People think the fortress of solitude was about being alone. Superman loved people implicitly. He lived to protect and guide them. It wasnt about being alone. It was about recharging in a way the yellow sun never could do. I get you Superman. My father didnt like you that much, but youre aight.
