When we got home from vacation, the attic door was ajar. - TopicsExpress

When we got home from vacation, the attic door was ajar. Apparently a cat had opened it. I closed it. A half hour later, a bat started flying around the upstairs hallway. We closed it into our bedroom, and opened a window screen. I did NOT want to go through all the things we had, including open luggage with clothing in the process of being put away and three clothes closets. We slept in the guest bedroom. In the morning, we found a dead bat on the floor of the dining room. Nooodle has not had a recent rabies booster. After some negotiations between the vet and the department of health, she is under quarantine (cannot go outside the house; this is her normal regimen) and she had a rabies booster shot yesterday. The dead bat is being analyzed by the department of health. I am awaiting a phone call. So, with at least one (maybe two) bats in the house when we came home, weve secured the attic door and blocked the gap under the door with a piece of wood that fits tightly. Awaiting lab results to see what killed the dead bat. Ill ask if that cause of death would likely infect any and all bats in the attic. I am quite thoroughly disinclined to go up in the attic to work on wiring or anything else.
