When we put someone else’s needs before our own, we always think - TopicsExpress

When we put someone else’s needs before our own, we always think we are doing the right thing and being unselfish. The truth is though that in putting someone else’s needs first, we are denying our own needs in favour of theirs and this is because we desperately don’ t want to lose them. So in effect we are trying to be the person that we think that they want us to be. Now we can hold onto this concept for a while and show our partner a false persona of ourselves, but over time, one of two things will happen. Either we will gradually let it drop to reveal our true selves or we will become so angry at the continual denial of our own needs that we will explode and possibly blame them. In reality, the only person we have to blame is ourselves. Wouldn’t it be better if we looked after our own needs first with consideration for our partner, rather than guessing their needs and denying our own?
