When we think about the problems that Sikhs, Dalits, Muslims, and other minorities are facing in India, we see these through a narrow lens of sectarianism and therefore forget the bigger picture. The root to powerlessness faced by minorities lies in the fact that in todays world we are increasingly seeing human populations divided along economic lines and those in power in most places will always put their selfish economic interest before human rights and human dignity. The endemic corruption in India is fueled by this growing inequality and the only solution, as Guru Gobind Singh Ji proclaimed (Recognise the human race as one and the mouth of a poor person is the treasure chest of the Guru), is a socialist society where all class and caste divisions are made redundant.
