When words are a matter of life and death Dick Mullender knows what it means to tackle communication challenges at the sharp end. Drawing on his career working as a Crisis and Hostage Negotiator and Trainer with the Metropolitan Police, the FBI and the UN, Dick brings a lifetime’s experience of how to use language and great listening skills to expertly handle tough conversations. As an enthralling speaker and trainer (he’ll be running a listening workshop later in the day), these are two opportunities not to be missed! When asked what are the three things we can all do to become better listeners, Dick said: “Stop asking questions! Let the person finish before you start. And stop trying to solve the problem. Listening is the most exhausting thing to do properly.” Dick Mullender, former lead trainer at the National Crisis and Hostage Negotiation Unit at Scotland Yard And that’s not all.
