When you are dieting to drop fat, be it for a bodybuilding show, - TopicsExpress

When you are dieting to drop fat, be it for a bodybuilding show, bikini competition or a sports event you should be having as HIGH carbohydrates as individually suitable & possible in your calorie allowance. Sure if you are insulin resistant and/or suffer from PCOS, an extremely high carbohydrate intake might NOT be the most appropriate for you BUT that does not mean you eliminate carbohydrates completely from your dietary intake. There are a number of dietary strategies that will allow for a considerable amount of carbohydrates to be consumed in one way or another. And that also goes for people who function better on ketogenic diets (or think they do and/or are a magic diet protocol). Much of the issue with people who are (self proclaimed) carbohydrate sensitive, tend to have a poor overall macronutrient balance. It is either or a combination of the overall diet being - 1: low in protein, 2: low in fibre & 3: low in fat. If the dietary intake is/was the appropriate balance between protein, carbohydrates, fats & fibre many of the people who are carb sensitive will be magically feeling and functioning better. However, most poorly & uneducated decisions lead to this self diagnosis based on mis-guided ideas on how the diets macronutrient composition should be. This is all before mentioning that sufficient carbohydrate intake/ high glycogen stores, will be far more beneficial for training performance especially in exercise that is of high intensity and/or long duration (I.E weight training, sprint training, football and sports like that). However if an individual is in a fat adapted state (being full carbohydrate/glycogen depleted and physiologically adapted to running on ketones), an acute large dosing of carbohydrates has little positive effect or benefit for exercise performance. So believing you can just down a massive plate of carbs before a training bout or event and it will aid in exercise performance, is unfortunately not correct thinking. Hence why it is far more beneficial to implement a dieting protocol that allows for sufficient dietary carbohydrates to be consumed on a regular or consistent basis, even if that means carbohydrate cycling periods. And no I dont think everyone needs to or should diet in that manner. In some individual cases however it serves a purpose (as mentioned earlier), but in general for most populations it can be avoided.
