When you are going to pay extra, the little details count. Decor, comfort, quality cuisine, service. Something a little different from the run of the mill restaurants. With that in mind, at Livv in Khaotalo this morning I tried the standard English (260 baht). A little dubious at first, as I have really enjoyed the out of the ordinary breakfasts here previously - the salmon, the ciabatta bread, etc - and paying more for these is quite normal. When it arrived I thought my fears had been confirmed. Maybe Patrick, hailing from the Netherlands, hadnt quite grasped what breakfast, UK style, should be. For 260 baht, plus an extra 90 baht for a cup of English tea, it looked little different to any you can find around town at a third of the price. Still, it improved greatly in the eating. All the ingredients were good quality, the mushrooms in particular delicious. Small details - I really dont like to see oil pooling on and around fried eggs. And at the price, the toast was pretty ordinary. The pre-sliced, mass-produced bread variety, that turns a bit soggy if you dont eat it quickly. No, at 90 baht extra, I didnt opt for tea. I had my usual tried and trusted hot mocha (in those silly glasses that are so hot when served that you can barely pick them up, yet all the heat dissipates through the glass in minutes so you have to drink it quickly if you dont like it luke warm...) - 100 baht. [Edit, the bill has arrived, moccha is now up to 115 baht from 100. Hmmm...] Overall though, not bad at all. Would I have it again? No. Back to salmon and speciality breads, next time!
