When you first start paying attention to your thoughts, you may find some surprising ones. You may be a little disturbed by the amount of negative chatter directed towards yourself and others. Dont be put aback by them. Now that you stat noticing them you may think they are getting worse - that is not true - you are just now aware of what really is going on. What you are aware of you can change! This is normal and you are normal. You were just taught to process your life in this negative way. YOU CAN CHANGE! Just like when you clean a roasting pan - when you start cleaning it initially the water gets dirty and mucky as you start dislodging the dirt. As you continue cleaning the pan and rinsing the water and pan gets cleaner and cleaner. Eventually all the muck is gone and you have a sparkling pan that you can use again for many more meals! Cleaning the muck of negative chatter is the same. Slowly replacing these unrealistic thoughts with balanced realistic ones is like rinsing the pan and then reciting them to yourself will start to clean your thinking. Counter all your negative thoughts with Optimistic self talk; be grateful for what you have in the present moment. You may need to recite your statements several times a day. After they take hold (and they will) you are in a maintenance mode where you just reinforce your Optimistic thinking constantly and its not a big deal at all!
