When you first walk through a rainforest everything looks wild and - TopicsExpress

When you first walk through a rainforest everything looks wild and even quite chaotic. 1 Chronicles 24:1-31 They also cast lots, just as their relatives the descendants of Aaron did, in the presence of King David and of Zadok, Ahimelek, and the heads of families of the priests and of the Levites. The families of the oldest brother were treated the same as those of the youngest. (1 Chronicles 24:31 NIV) I recently walked through the Daintree Rainforest in the far north of Australia. I’m quite partial to nature and the beauty of trees but I was yet again reminded of the incredible order of creation. When you first walk through a rainforest everything looks wild and even quite chaotic. There is a conglomeration of flora and fauna all living on top of each other. But then you have a closer look… In a rainforest, there is minimal light that shines through the upper canopy of trees, so nothing is there by chance. The lower shrubs grow is such a way that they minimise the energy they use but still maximise the energy received. You will see a lot of big leafed plants to gain the most amount of sunlight once it does get through and vines that gain their life source from the bigger trees in which they attach themselves too. What starts out as looking like just a jumble of plants ends up being an incredibly ordered, structural ecosystem of life and fruitfulness. I must admit that I’m rather partial to order. Some people can live in chaos however I prefer to know where everything is at all times. There are times when my desire for structure can be limiting however I’ve learned that God created incredible levels of order. From the first days of creation to the intricate mapping of the Internet, order is all around us. It helps people to feel safe and provides great levels of productivity. Even the most creative jobs need an element of order otherwise nothing would come to completion. It was refreshing for me to know that God is in the details but important to remember that He is not bound by them. Through 1 Chronicles we see the structure put in place to assist the people of God to live and worship. This was incredibly helpful to a large group of people, just as order is helpful in our homes, churches and workplaces. Once order is put in place it then allows room for creativity. It is not the end of all progress, but the starting point in which God can display His wonder and power. Prayer 󾍛 Lord, thank you for the order You have placed in this world. May the order in our own lives allow us to grow and develop in such a way that we are always heading towards a greater relationship with You and Your creation. Amen.
