When you look at the amazing gas pump prices this holiday season, be reminded that were at war with a serious world power. Oil prices dont cut in half due to natural market forces. We have, through sanction and economic policy, shrunk Russias entire economy by half; they are now entering a vast depression. Many stores are closing down and Putin is now saying This is not about Crimea, but Russias right to exist. This marks a definite end to those that argue sanctions are ineffective. The spread of economic control over the world economy has put the US in the drivers seat. Im not sure if thats a good thing or a bad thing. For one, China relies on Russian oil is now aiding them to prevent further de-stabilization, but they can only go so far. This marks a separation of powers where both sides are serious contenders and history seems to show thats dangerous. Russias Crimea advances though needed to be checked with a serious show of power and this seems both effective and non-violent at the surface.
