Whenever I feel depressed about things such as world affairs at - TopicsExpress

Whenever I feel depressed about things such as world affairs at the moment, I try to remind myself of an interesting fact in the Qur’ān. The word for grief or sadness/depression is حزن (ḥuzn). And whenever it appears in the Qur’ān, it is only *ever* mentioned except that: (a) ALLAH jalla wa ‘alā prohibits it: وَلَا تَهِنُوا وَلَا تَحْزَنُوا وَأَنْتُمُ الْأَعْلَوْنَ إِنْ كُنْتُمْ مُؤْمِنِينَ “Do not lose heart or despair – if you are true Believers you have the upper hand.” (3:139) OR: (b) ALLAH jalla wa ‘alā removes it from us: أَلَا إِنَّ أَوْلِيَاءَ اللَّهِ لَا خَوْفٌ عَلَيْهِمْ وَلَا هُمْ يَحْزَنُونَ “But for those who are on Allah’s side there is no fear, nor shall they grieve.” (10:62) Conclusion: if that’s our Lord’s attitude to grief, that why on Earth should we keep on banging our own drums every day in depression? Grieve. Done. Dusted. Now let’s move on and upwards and keep positive. Reflect [Abu Eesa]
