Whenever I’m in Frederick on the weekends, I’m usually downtown and it bothers me to no end to see the lack of diversity walking the streets. Yesterday, two of my girlfriends and I spend about 4 hours downtown and while most of that time was at an event at the Delaplaine Center (where we were also the only lil brown people as patrons), we walked Market and eventually landed at Cuba de Sabor on Patrick. I counted 4 other people of color walking around…FOUR. This is not the first time I’ve counted numbers less than 10. I don’t know what the deal is but this obvious segregation is another reason I’m headed back inside the Beltway. If anyone can shed light on why minorities don’t function downtown and where they are instead, I’d be interested in knowing.
