Where is now our Co-operative identity? Peace. The following could be another topics in October 2014 Co-operatives Month discussions that co-op members and Leaders need to review. in an attempt to show some bigness about three (3) decades ago, co-op Leaders in spite of differentiating co-operatives from corporations and banks, wanted to adapt so-caLLed corporatives. in an attmpt to somewhat run-down the Bombay or indian street and market “5/6” Lenders, and the Bangladeshi Grameen Banks systems (1976), and other Lending institutions, co-op Leaders, managers, and CEOs could have in the Last two (2) decades been promoting and adapting to so-caLLed microfinancing terms and practices, though credit co-ops or credit unions have been so since the 1800s, without these terms and in spite of promoting supposedLy some co-operative identity. Members and our communities could just be Led to some confusing activities and practices that truly could not be co-operatives? Is this no wonder why in the Philippines we could not reach at least twenty (20 %) percent of our people to be members of our co-operatives? And why not a good number of our members would not wish to come out on their own as proud co-operative members? And why many of our brothers and sisters are still believing and actually to be in deep down in economic woes or troubles, debts or loans in spite of some good co-operative legislations such as in the Co-op Code (RA-6938 of 1990 and RA-9520 of 2009) and the C.D.A. Law (RA-6939 of 1990), and claims of some big co-operatives? Though there are many types, forms, and Levels (and sub-levels) of co-operatives for our own people to reap and enjoy the benefits, practically our co-op leaders are so far appearing for the last at least half a century to the early 1960s have been somewhat contented only with our credit co-operatives or credit union types? Why could this be so?
