Whereas many African historians and the political elite blame our development nemesis and backwardness on prolonged slavery and colonial subjugation, as a student of Social and Development Administration, I think differently. We cant continue to depend on the same development narrative in millenia and expect to have different results. Substantially, various literature have been drawn to testify how countries (Singapore, Malaysia....) that attained indepence at same times as most African countries are far better than the latter in terms of the current chapter of the global development story. Prolonged Slave Trade??? Colonial Subjugation??? Yes!!! I may agree partly. However, how about the African Politician and their attitude..., the modern day orchestrated political corruption to enrich the ruling class.., the profound administrative ineptitude shrouded in paternalistic tendencies..., the huge internal political subortage...as well as the chronic dependency on neo-colonial/liberal directives just for costly tokens and miscalculated dole outs??? The very people from whom we claim to have gained independence are the very ones to whom African leaders have sold that independence. If our development trajectory is one that is continually led by the corrupt African politicians and its survival pathetically hinged on the extent to which we depend on some vampire institutions such as the Bretton Woods and their powerful alies we dub bilateral sisters, then our development narrative will grow gloomier with time.....
