Whew! I Finally finished replying to everyone who wished me a happy Birthday. Thank you everyone. When I left my hometown back in ʻ95, a year after I graduated from high school and spent a little less than a year trying to figure out if I even wanted to go to college, I never couldʻve imagined that I would have such a blessed life and amazing opportunities. I have an amazing wife, Alyssa and three kids who keep me on my feet, awesome and supportive parents Kuulei and George Kauanoe, the worldʻs greatest siblings Tippany and Keoki Kauanoe and their families Pati, Schelli and kids, and of course many cousins, aunties, uncles, etc. I canʻt forget my in-laws also, Kyle, Robin, Scott, and Aya. I have some of the best friends (Joe, Juan, Vincent, Neida, Donavan, Nam only to name a few) from elementary school through college, law school, and graduate school. (I have so many wonderful people in my life that I risk offending someone if I try to name them all here - sorry). For a glimpse, look at the wall for the birthday messages. I missed both by 10th and 20th high school reunions and these guys still want to see me. Thanks! Iʻve also had amazing mentors and bosses like Melody Kapilialoha MacKenzie and worked with some great people too (again too many mention here with the risk of offending someone by inadvertently not including them - sorry again). Working at Ka Huli Ao and the William S. Richardson School of Law was an amazing experience that prepared me for many other issues, things, opportunities, etc. Mahalo nui. I canʻt thank you all enough. Iʻve also the pleasure and privilege of working with the greatest law students I couldʻve asked for. Iʻm excited to watch them move forward and do wonderful things in their careers. A few weeks after our twins were born in May of this year, I started a new job with the Office of Hawaiian Affairs (OHA) as the Governance Manager - mahalo Kawika Riley. At OHA (as I did at Ka Huli Ao Center for Excellence in Native Hawaiian Law), I work among some of the strongest and effective advocates for Native Hawaiians (there are many awesome advocates that donʻt work there). We may not win all the time, but when we lose, the next day weʻre right back at it again. So, I thank everyone for the life I have and for being a part of it.
