Whew! We were guarding the Tapline Road Crossing when the order - TopicsExpress

Whew! We were guarding the Tapline Road Crossing when the order came out to go to MOPP level 2. We had to put our chemical suits on.I was sitting on the side of the road somewhere near the triangle border of Iraq, Saudi Arabia and Kuwait with my 2nd platoon of the 545th Military Police Company of the 1st Cavalry Division. My driver, Kevin Casey was probably asleep if he was sitting behind the steering wheel, my gunner PFC Hall was probably freezing in the gunners turret and we were getting ready for all hell to break loose. It turned out to be just the air war. We were about to make the Wadi Al Batin our newest home of operations. Nothing was certain, we had no maps, we didnt know the sounds of the tanks behind us were our own tanks, we were just sent forward in front of everybody and told to make sure the road stayed clear. Then the tanks, armored personnel carriers, bradleys, and armored ambulances, started rolling and what a sight that was! Miles upon miles of lines of tracked vehicles. This was all going on while the air war was beginning in Baghdad, which is what you hear here. Later Bob Simon of CBS news would stop by and chat with us, before he drove right into Iraq and was captured and held for 40 days. lol youtube/watch?v=vn8mfg_oEz4
