While I had come across this link quite sometime back, and I do admire Neil Gaiman, I have desisted from sharing this link. Thus now, more than a link, it is a mull I share with you. One that I have pondered over for long. Was Gutenberg a blessing or a curse? For with Gutenberg, broadcasting came into place. Along with broadcasting, the first mechanism of conformity was also introduced. Machines replaced tools and while awareness did increase, so did conformity. For, previous to this, while there were books, there was no book which was an exact copy of the other, nor a story which was an exact copy of another. They morphed, evolved, aged in their telling. That was magical. Now there is mass production, and in the name of awareness, do we conform a little more? And a little more? And a little more? Did we lose some magic in that? I have nothing against Libraries, mind you. It is the way of the books.
