While at Roma Street yesterday I was lucky enough to get some shots of a Stone Curlew family. These secretive birds are well camouflaged amongst the leaf debris ...in fact I wasnt even aware there were three in the first pic...I could only see two! These delightful natives are highly adapted to living in arid conditions so the dry hasnt truly bothered them. When alarmed, they play statues and instead of flying or running away like most birds, they become incredibly motionless so as to not be noticed. These are one of our most shy ground dwelling birds and are fascinating to watch. Theres a lot to be said about leaving a good percentage of leaf litter around the garden after all. Now I dont feel so bad! :-) What interesting birds do you have in your backyards ?
