While at the laundromat this morn I see this guy struggling with his basket to open the door. So I rush over and open the door for this man. A few moments later as Im loading my stuff in the car he approaches me teary eyed and asked me if I had a moment. He preceded to tell me about his military career and how if you werent white you always had the jobs you didnt want. So after 4 years of washing dishes and shining officers shoes, thanks to one generals wife, he was given a chance to advance. This man retired from the navy in 1985 after 25 years of service. He said to this day no one has ever been as kind to him as that generals wife until I opened that door for him. This 70-80 year old philipino man broke down and cried as he thanked me. He even wished me a merry Christmas. This just goes to show its the little things in life that matter most.
