While listening to tom Joyner on the radio this morning, they have ilyanla on to talk about what she did while in fergersun and.. -She spoke on how so many were unaware that certain positions such as judges and so on are elected offices and that we actually have the power to make a change in that area. Lessons- be informed, register to vote, there is truly power in numbers -along with that, the number of those who have been in jail and have lost their right to vote. Lesson- stop glorifying jail life, stop extolling the cred one gets from going to jail like it is something to be proud of. In the long run, it hurts all of us in more than one way. -She spoke on how a plan was needed, (I am paraphrasing) because without a plan/goal/ direction the efforts are for naught. Lesson- marching and protesting is fine, but then what? What can YOU do? Not all can march, not all can protest. What can YOU contribute to a longterm solution for the betterment of pur people? -she went on to broach the topics of the different generations/economic levels/ getting it understood that this isnt a matter of stopping systemic racism, for that is an attitude, ones personal belief if i may. Lessons- Even though wemay all be from different walks of life, have different religious/spiritual beliefs, economic status, stations in life, we MUST come together for a greater cause. There is enough pain and fear and discourse to go around 3 fold with all of the disparities the black /African American race has and continues to experience racism, we dont need to keep tearing up one another because of what or whom the other believes in. See it for what it is, show some respect, get over yourself and lets get something accomplished.
