While looking for one of my favorite quotes in one of my favorite - TopicsExpress

While looking for one of my favorite quotes in one of my favorite books, Les Miserables by Victor Hugo, I stumbled upon a sweet memory! Next to the favorite quote was a date, 9/15/04, the date we had also finished reading the book together. It was the last book we read together. Every Christmas I would buy Steven a book just from “mom”. We would read these exciting, interesting, or even humorist books with enthusiasm. Usually I would begin the chapter reading out loud and then when my voice tired I would pass the book and Steven would take his turn reading out loud. Usually snuggled on the sofa sharing a throw, it was our time! I’m sure my memories are far sweeter and more treasured, because that’s what we mom’s do, we treasure those sweet memories, but I also know reading together was an opportunity to pour into my son truths that matter. It was an opportunity to discuss the scenarios we had just read about. With the gift giving season already upon us, young moms might want to consider giving the gift of a good book to their children, and then read the book together! Steven’s Nintendo, PlayStation, or whatever gizmos he received had their place of entertainment for sure, but the hours of bonding over good books remain! To this day, I always give Steven a book at Christmas, just from “mom”. Last year with his overloaded schedule I chose a classic newspaper comic book. It’s just our thing, he expects it! I’ve already chosen the book for this Christmas! Oh, and for that favorite quote, I suspect you’ll love it too! “. . . You can’t imagine what I was saying to myself. . . ‘Everything is over for me, I am a miserable man. . . How idiotic I have been! I was forgetting about our gracious God, Who said, ‘You believe you are about to be abandoned? Don’t be silly! No, things will not go as you think.’” Jean Valjean
