While sightings like these are magnificent and no longer rare, we know that as the native prey base is decimated across South Florida, in the not so distant future, we fear we will be back to pre-hybridization recovery numbers. Overpopulation of this Apex predator is not only admitted by government agencies, it remains unmanageable by immediate/guaranteed law suits by the same NGOs that claim to be trying to help the puma....The ONLY difference will be,we will have very little wildlife left when the smoke clears on this Travesty... As all Truly Long Term viable contiguous habitat for the Puma ONLY exists south of the Caloosahatchee, and our neighboring states do not want our surplus hybridized puma, tough choices must be made very soon.
