While speaking with a close friend this weekend I was reminded - TopicsExpress

While speaking with a close friend this weekend I was reminded again how many people out there are truly hurting. Hurting from failed relationships, failed finances, broken promises and past regrets. Hurting from past mistakes, wrongs done against them and errors in judgment. It’s easy for people to tell you to forget it and move on but we all know that forgetting isnt that simple. We actually have to close that chapter in our lives. Because, If you never make peace with your past, it will keep showing up in your present. While many have their own theories, my experience has been that true peace will only come from forgiveness, repentance and the realization that you dont have to go through it alone. We all know that holding on to anger towards another is like drinking poison and hoping that the other person dies. The only one it damages is you. We must remember, forgiveness has nothing to do with absolving a criminal of his or her crime. It has everything to do with relieving yourself of being a victim… Letting go of the pain so that you may change the chapter from that of a victim to that of a survivor. For others, the hurts in the past arent about what others have done to you, it’s about mistakes you have made and what you have done to yourself or others. Repentance is asking forgiveness, then making a change: Change in what you think, change in what you desire, change in what you do and say. Only then can you move on! Often, the most difficult part of repentance is to forgive oneself… You may have to remind yourself again that forgiveness means forgiveness. Finally, as a Christian I am comforted in the knowledge that I am not alone. Years ago I came to the conclusion that internal peace was not something I had to do by myself... and that realization and acceptance changed everything for me! Matthew 11:28-30 (NIV) “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.” Have a blessed Sunday my friends…
