While the people in my home town are well aware, I just want to make mention to the rest of my friends that Mr. Hood, our band director at Paden City High School, WV and musician extraordinaire passed away recently. I have to thank Mr. Hood for the gift of music, it had such an incredible impact on my life. After I wrecked my motorcycle in 79, I was invalid for a long time. I took what Mr Hood taught me and transferred it to guitar, then bass guitar. It was the only thing I was capable of doing during the long decade of recovery before I finally was able to walk well enough to go back to work. Kept me from going crazier, for sure. I played in rock bands for 10 years and I honestly believe thats the one thing that finally got my wife Cherris attention that I wasnt only just a grody grease monkey, wish I could have introduced him to my children like I planned. My mother was very musical but in typical fashion and like teaching driving, music can be a hard thing to teach to your own kids. Mr. Hood gave me the gift of music when he set me down with that sousaphone my sophomore year, practicing in the back steps of the basketball gym, and a priceless gift it was. Thanks again, Mr Hood, it wont ever be forgotten.
