While they were eating, Jesus took bread, gave thanks and broke - TopicsExpress

While they were eating, Jesus took bread, gave thanks and broke it, and gave it to his disciples, saying, Take and eat; this is my body. (MATTHEW 26:26) God is able to transform the ordinary into something extraordinary. Throughout Scripture God chose ordinary people and made them extraordinary with His power. He took ordinary substances and infused them with His holiness. The manna in the wilderness was more than just flakes... it was Gods provision. When Jesus fed the 5000, it signified more than His gifts of multiplication; it is a statement that He can truly feed us all. And here, at the Last Supper, Jesus is at it again. He turns a simple serving of bread and wine into a meal of salvation. When we take communion, we arent getting enough to fill our stomachs. We eat a wafer or square of bread that hardly satisfies. But the gift and the mystery is that we are indeed filled to the brim. Jesus takes this meager helping and makes it a feast. Ive heard people describe the Gospel as one beggar telling the other beggars where the bread is. Jesus tells us, in more ways than one, I am the bread... broken for you. What a filling meal of grace for sinners.... Amen!
