While water is important to farming it is equally critical to note that it is not a solution that can be implemented in a vacuum. If our abuse of weedicides robs the soil of its carbon content, soils may be incapable of retaining sufficient moisture to support proper plant growth. It goes without saying that in some cases soil biology could be seriously impacted by ill conceived irrigation systems and excess NPK fertilizers which destroys beneficial organisms. Proper soil management including shading and proper soil cover could reduce considerably the demand for water while preserving soil health.
