While we were at Mills Home we met so many people who we will never forget. Some we have kept in contact with through the years. Others, through Facebook we have found each other again and I cannot tell you what a joy that has been. We plan to reunite with many of these dear friends at the Mills Home Homecoming in August 2015. First time we will travel back since 1979. During our years there, David as Farm Mgr and Me as part time house mother we met two young boys that David and I fell in love with strongly and if we could have we would have brought them both into our home to raise as our own. They were just GREAT little boys. They had other family members and that wasnt possible but didnt stop us from loving them and seeing how special they were. ( I have a dining room table sitting in my house today that one of these young boys, Obie and another boy Rufus made in shop from Thomasville Furniture products. It s a beauty and used every day since they gave it to us in 1978. ) I found Obie on another friends list and I cried when I saw his name. We had not talked in years. Sent him a friends request and we havent stopped talking since. He has gone on to become a successful business owner, married happily with a son in college. I asked him to call David yesterday since it was his birthday and of course he did last night. Well since then David has said approximately 100 times (more or less) I cant believe Obie called. He hasnt stopped smiling and even took down the HUGE scrapbook of our days at Mills Home to look at all the pictures of Obie, Jerry, Delania, Tim, Cindy, Mr. Sisk...the farm, the farmhouse, the cottages, memories galore. David couldnt have received a nicer gift than the one from a man we loved so much as a little boy who we hope is now making plans for him and his wife to come spend the weekend with us. We lost our babies while we were there but we decided last night we gained more than we lost....if only the lasting love and friendship of a little boy named Obie. We will never lose track of again, I promised him that!!! He touched our hearts more than he will ever know. Thank you!!!!!
