White tiger dies after female attacks during mating Chennai - India 23rd Aug. CHENNAI: The first mating proved fatal for a three-and-a-half-year-old male white tiger at the Vandalur zoo. Sembian, who suffered serious injuries on his head when his seven-year-old partner turned violent early this month, died on Wednesday. Zoo officials told TOI that Sembian was made familiar with female Bengal tiger Sathya which was brought from the Hyderabad zoo. Sathya had earlier littered while it was the first time for Sembian. After the familiarisation process - when the two tigers were kept in separate enclosures from where they can could see and sense each other - which began three months ago, zoo officials thought the two were attracted to each other. Officials said that they had monitored Sembian and Sathya through closed circuit television and it was only when they developed compatibility they were released into the common enclosure to mingle and mate on August 7. "During the mating process, Sathya hit Sembian on the forehead and the male sustained deep injuries. He was being treated by zoo doctors, but he died on Wednesday," a spokesman of the zoo said.
