Who elects this business hater? Milwaukee Alderman Robert - TopicsExpress

Who elects this business hater? Milwaukee Alderman Robert Bauman, father of The Milwaukee Streetcar, is gung-ho for a BILLION dollar streetcar which he and proponents claim will encourage development and new business...yet he has a history of KILLING new business in his own district! In 2010 Bauman shut down a restaurant at 27th & Kilbourn on its very first day in business--this after the immigrant owner, Muhammad Nasir Khan, a 21 year police veteran from Pakistan, received the required permits, invested $65,000 in equipment, repainted the outside, hired security, installed police-accessible cameras and spent $5,000 on food and beverages. The reason for shutting down the business, according to Bauman: the PREVIOUS business operating at the location was the site of criminal activity; applying the same logic to businesses across the City of Milwaukee would close hundreds of businesses! Apparently Mr. Khans massive investment in improving the location did not impress Bauman or the automobile-hating members of the Avenues West Association, who said the restaurant was too auto-oriented. Too auto-oriented? Well, weve come full-circle right back to streetcar zealots most-hated piece of technology: the automobile. Not surprisingly one of the BILLION dollar streetcars extensions runs to the Avenues West neighborhood, of which Alderman Bauman is a resident. Call Alderman Bauman (414-286-2221) and let him know you disapprove of his anti small business record and while youre at it--tell him YOU want to shut down his Milwaukee Streetcar!
